Research Associate:
Museum Visitor Metrics

Pivotal Research Inc. Edmonton, AB

Perceiving a gap in museum visitor studies in Canada we investigated the challenges Canadian institutions face in conducting research. By interviewing museum professionals from across the country we learned that museums struggle for a variety of reasons to conduct informative, relevant research and to apply these findings in a useful manner.

After better understanding the needs and issues that Canadian museums face, Pivotal Research Inc. embarked on creating a number of Research Services to meet these needs. Visit www.museumresearch.ca to learn more about the services we provided to the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies (Banff, AB), the Galt Museum & Archives (Lethbridge, AB) and the Britannia Mine Museum (Britannia Beach, BC).

Research Associate, Project Lead:
Alberta Foundation for the Arts

Pivotal Research Inc. Edmonton, AB

Pivotal Research was selected to conduct a content analysis of final reports submitted by grant recipients in the Artists in Education grant stream. We wrote a final report based on a content analysis, extracting outcome statements and project descriptions from files for later use by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and prepared a literature review about the arts in education with a particular focus on artists-in-school residencies.

A second research project followed where we conducted an outcome study of funding to individual artists through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts grants. We conducted content analyses on four different types of final reports submitted by artists who received project grants from the AFA.

Research Assistant:
Transforming Communities Through the Arts

OCAD University and the Toronto Arts Foundation

I worked on a research study “Transforming Communities Through the Arts”, a collaborative project with the Toronto Arts Foundation, York University, and OCAD University and Art Starts. During this project I contributed to survey development, conducted interviews, focus groups and organized events. I was responsible for coding the resulting data and assisted in writing elements of the final SSHRC and community report. The study was funded by a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant. The full report along with community maps and resources can be accessed at http://torontoartsresearch.org
